Fire-Resistant Fiber for Concrete and Tunnel Applications | PIONEER®
High-Performance Anti-Spalling Polypropylene Fiber for Concrete

Deploy advanced structural fire protection for your concrete projects with fire-resistant, anti-spalling fiber technology engineered for tunnels, high-rise buildings, public infrastructure, and underground facilities.

What is PIONEER® Fire-Resistant Fiber?

PIONEER® HPM® FR is a high-performance fire-resistant polypropylene fiber for concrete, designed to improve fire safety and spalling prevention in fiber-reinforced concrete. These hollow monofilament polypropylene fibers melt under high temperatures to form micro-channels within the concrete, relieving vapor pressure and preventing explosive spalling during fire exposure. This advanced fire-protection solution provides critical evacuation time and delays structural collapse, ensuring safer tunnels, high-rise buildings, and essential public infrastructure.

Key Benefits of Using Fire-Resistant Polypropylene Fiber in Concrete

Leverage the performance of fire-resistant anti-spalling fibers to improve the safety and durability of your concrete projects.

  • Prevents Fire Spalling: Forms micro-channels to reduce vapor pressure, avoiding explosive spalling during fires.

  • Delays Collapse: Extends time to structural failure, improving evacuation safety.

  • Improves Fire Safety: Essential for tunnels, basements, subways, and high-rise evacuation routes.

  • Effective Crack Control: Reduces early-age plastic shrinkage cracking.

  • Easy Dispersion: Distributes evenly in HPC/UHPC and standard concrete mixes.

  • Lightweight & Practical: Enhances fire performance without adding significant weight.

  • Cost-Effective Fire Protection: Supports compliance with tunnel and high-rise fire safety regulations.

Where to Use Fire-Resistant Concrete Fibers

PIONEER® fire-resistant polypropylene fibers are suitable for a wide range of fire-protected concrete applications:

  • Tunnels and Underground Structures: Subway tunnels, basements, parking structures

  • High-Rise Buildings: Slabs, columns, and fire-rated structural elements

  • Public Buildings: Airports, hospitals, government facilities, schools

  • Critical Infrastructure: Bridges and essential facilities requiring fire-resilient concrete

  • Precast Concrete Elements: Facade panels, tunnel segments, and protective linings

  • HPC/UHPC Fire-Resistant Applications: Where high strength meets fire safety requirements

How to Use Fire-Resistant Polypropylene Fiber for Concrete

Follow these guidelines for best results when using fire-resistant polypropylene fibers in concrete applications:

    1. Dosage: 0.6–1.2 kg/m³ (typically 0.9 kg/m³) based on project fire safety requirements

    2. Length Selection:

         • 6 mm for thin precast and overlays

         • 12 mm for general concrete applications

         • 18 mm for thick tunnel linings and heavy components

    3. Mixing: Add fibers with aggregates and cement during dry mixing, extending mix time to ensure even fiber dispersion.

    4. Design Compatibility: Does not require mix redesign, compatible with HPC, UHPC, and standard concrete production processes.
